Title: domesticity style by gyzym
Pairing: Troy/Abed

who remembers to buy the milk: Usually Shirley, shortly after she’s come to visit, looked in the fridge, raised an eyebrow, and made that face that means she’s trying really hard not to say, “This is not the way adults live.” Sometimes Jeff, after doing exactly the same thing except not bothering to resist the urge to say, “This is not the way adults live!!” Annie would, but she’s lactose intolerant.

who cooks normally: Troy makes the most hilariously high-concept food he can with the most hysterically antithetical ingredients available (this is based on canon — remember the Bagel Bites in a deconstructed Hot Pocket reduction with a Dorito glaze?) as part of a long running bit between him and Abed that started the night of the Andre dinner, when they dined and dashed at that fancy restaurant. They were watching Food Network later that night — for theme — and eating junk food, and Troy was like, “You know, that food is really pretty, and it’s weirdly fun to watch them cook, but is any of this ever going to taste better than Sour Patch Kids? Uh, no.” And Abed was like, “The entire structure of these shows is based on aesthetics and soothingly complex food vocabulary; you could achieve the same effect with almost any ingredients, because the actual recipe isn’t what it’s about.” And then somehow that became the two of them coming up with increasingly ridiculous parody recipe ideas, and then Abed was going to actually film a Cooking With Troy series, but they both lost interest when they realized how much money they’d have to spend making largely inedible food. The end result, however, is that Troy does experimental cooking in the style that show was going to be about, just sometimes, when the mood strikes him. Some of it actually turns out to be really good! And some of it gets thrown directly in the trash to the tune of Troy humming Daybreak while Abed makes them buttered noodles.

Reasons Why You Should Read It:

Really cute look at the domestic side of Troy and Abed's life. Not quite a fic, but still super cute.

"Some days are no-hugs days. But mostly I just never know when I'm supposed to hug someone," Abed added. "And then it's this whooooole big deal when you get it wrong and you hug the bank teller but then don't ever hug your mother." He made that little sadeyed Abed-frown that always made Troy want to do things, things like making sure that no one in the world ever treated Abed badly. "Frankly it'd be nice to have someone to make those decisions for me."

"You can do that, if you want."

Troy said something in response to that, but it was muffled because his face was pressed into Abed's shirt.

"See, like this for instance, I wouldn't have known that a discussion about hugs should itself lead to a hug. You've saved me some anxiety here. Nice work."

Troy gave him a little squeeze.

Reasons Why You Should Read It:

Because Troy and Abed hug. A lot. And are adorable. A lot. And are perfect. A lot.

The kiss is soft and quick, and before Abed's really had the chance to process it, Troy is pulling back again. Abed keeps a firm grip on Troy's hand so he doesn't go too far.

Troy opens his mouth to speak, looking worried, and Abed cuts him off.

"Cool," he says. "Cool cool cool cool."

Troy's face relaxes, and he smiles. "Yeah?"

Abed nods. Then he tilts his head, considering. "It makes sense that one member of the group would start to explore their sexuality as a mid-series arc. They'd usually get a love interest introduced as a recurring character, though, not another lead. And conventions probably dictate that it should be Annie, though possibly that's just because she reminds me of Willow from Buffy sometimes." He shakes his head; he's getting off topic. "What I mean is, I'm not sure the network's going to for this. We're flouting the conventions of the genre."

"I guess," Troy says, sounding dubious, like maybe he thinks that's a problem for Abed.

Reasons Why You Should Read It:

Because it is adorable and perfectly in-character and involves lots of penmenship. There's an almost lyrical quality to it, or dreamlike maybe, it just flows along like water, the relationship between them an obvious next step that doesn't even feel like a step, more like a continuation. Cause they're already Troy and Abed, and this is how they become TroyandAbed.

Basically, Abed makes notes, Troy is sweetly earnest, and it's all good in the end.

He looks up at her and brightens. "Oh, are we having a relationship talk?" He stands and leaps onto the bed next to her, bouncing the mattress, and lays on his side facing her with his head propped up on his arm. "Okay, first you say that you want to be monogamous and have PDAs and babies and go to the spring formal together, and then I reject the idea of commitment and we fight but ultimately decide that we can make it work."

He walks for a while, through the collegey areas of town between Greendale and City College, passing bars, restaurants, coffee shops. At one point he's pretty sure he's near Britta's place – he's never been there, but he dropped her off once, on his birthday – and he considers going in and asking her for advice. Britta's messed up and painfully open minded and has made plenty of mistakes in her life, so she'd probably understand. Troy could just vomit all his messy sloppy emotions out on her floor and then ask her to sort through them. Abed kinda wants to have sex with me, I think, Troy could say, for openers, and then go on from there to end up at but I think I want to marry him. Maybe with a digression about what his mom would say and how he'd be disfellowshipped and how Abed's dad is kind of scary and how this isn't how it's supposed to be.

Reasons why you should read it:

This fic, just, this fic stole my heart and covered it in warm blankets of feels. It is so perfect it hurts. Equal parts Troy/Abed, Annie/Abed, and then some, it is basically my new gospel for Community.

This is so canon it hurts, everything is pitch perfect and Abed, Abed is so fucking amazing. And all the sexy times? Hot damn, they are sexy as hell.

It's pretty much got everything you could ask for, with some knitting thrown in for good measure. Even the study gang is so perfect it hurts. So if you're looking for long, plotty, slow-burning fic, then this is right up your alley.
